Data Retention Policy

What we keep, how long we keep it, and why

BHED follows a minimal data retention philosophy: we keep data only as long as it serves a clear purpose for you or the platform. When that purpose ends, the data is deleted.

This policy explains how long BHED retains different categories of data, and what happens when that period ends. Retention periods are based on the purpose of the data, not arbitrary timelines.

All times below are measured from the last relevant activity unless otherwise specified.

Firebase Analytics events14 months (Google default)

When you request account deletion:

  • A deletion request is created immediately
  • A verification email is sent to confirm the request is intentional
  • A 7-day grace period begins — you can cancel the deletion during this time
  • After 7 days, all personal data associated with your account is permanently purged
  • Deletion includes: profile data, quiz results, track progress, day completions, and reminder settings
  • Audit logs referencing your actions may retain anonymized records for up to 90 days
Once the 7-day grace period passes and deletion is executed, the data cannot be recovered. Please download your data first if you want a copy.

Like most platforms, BHED uses cloud infrastructure that maintains automated backups. This means:

  • Your data may persist in encrypted infrastructure backups for a short period after deletion
  • These backups are not accessible for normal operations and are overwritten on a rolling cycle
  • Backup data is never used to restore deleted user data after a confirmed deletion request
  • We use industry-standard cloud infrastructure with its own security and retention policies

In rare cases, BHED may be required to retain data longer than our standard schedule:

  • Compliance with a valid legal order, subpoena, or law enforcement request
  • Active investigation of platform abuse or safety incidents
  • Pending dispute resolution or chargeback proceedings

We will notify affected users of legal holds to the extent permitted by law.

You don't have to wait for our schedule. You can delete data proactively:

  • Delete reminder data — Privacy & Data settings → "Delete reminder data"
  • Download your data before deletion — Privacy & Data settings → "Download my data"
  • Request full account deletion — Account settings → Danger Zone
  • Opt out of community features — Privacy settings toggles
  • Email us to request specific data deletion: privacy@bhed.app

We will update this policy if retention schedules change. Material changes will be communicated to registered users. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
